Bodega Neus

Bodega Neus sits in a narrow Gràcia passage once used by traders travelling to and from Mercat de la Llibertat, and the address still feels connected to that practical neighbourhood history. Wine was being sold here by the barrel in 1917; the old casks remain above the room, while the present owners have preserved the spirit rather than turning it into a nostalgic set. Begin with the house vermouth or a simple glass of cask wine, then add classic tapas: cod, tortilla, a bomba, croquettes or the bodega's traditional capipota when available. The cooking is direct, savoury and designed for sharing rather than presentation. Space is intimate and the atmosphere grows quickly, so an early weekday lunch or first round of the evening is more comfortable than arriving with a large group at peak time. Prices remain kind by central Barcelona standards. Bodega Neus is valuable because it feels used, not curated—a place where the bottles, old timber and regular conversations carry as much character as the plate in front of you.
