Cervecería Cervantes has served Plaza de Jesús since 1983, opposite the Basílica de Jesús de Medinaceli and close enough to the Prado for museum fatigue to become appetite. The room is narrow, bright and frequently packed, with a stainless-steel bar and little interest in atmospheric staging. Order a caña first; the beer is cold, cleanly drawn and accompanied by the small generosity that makes Madrid bar culture work. Then look to the seafood and traditional raciones: prawns, mussels, anchovies, octopus, fried fish, jamón and tortilla. The best choices are direct and ingredient-led, delivered quickly and eaten while the room turns around you. A table helps for a full meal, but standing at the bar preserves the address’s energy. Prices are fair for the location, and service can seem brisk because the place is almost always moving. Cervantes is neither a literary salon nor a destination tasting room despite the name. It is a very good cervecería, which means fresh food, a convincing beer and no reason to make the transaction more complicated than pleasure requires.
