Lapérouse

The establishment was founded by Louis XV’s lemonade maker at the end of the 18th century. In the 20th century, the restaurant belonged to the very exclusive circle of three-Michelin-starred establishments until 1968. Guests came to Lapérouse to sample emblematic dishes such as Prince Orloff roast veal or the famous candied fruit soufflé. Many illustrious figures have wandered its corridors and elegant salons: Maupassant, Baudelaire, Hugo, Proust, and Zola were regulars. Gainsbourg met Jane Birkin here. Films were shot on location to capture its suspended sense of time. Wood paneling, chandeliers, mirrors, embroidered tapestries, velvet banquettes—it is a temple of romanticism. On the menu, the potato charlotte with caviar, the sole meunière to share, and the house vacherin are all safe bets. The hushed, intimate bar will transport you to another era, all while listening to Harry Styles or Beyoncé, surrounded by a “beautiful people” crowd just like you.
