Le Louchébem

Founded in 1878, when Les Halles were still known as the belly of Paris, Le Louchébem—whose name means “butcher” in Parisian slang—is the oldest rotisserie in the capital. In a charming, almost unchanged setting, with lacquered red walls, white tablecloths, and servers wearing butcher’s aprons, the atmosphere is always lively at lunchtime. In the evening, it feels more like a village bistro: you can feast at any hour on succulent meats. A real treat. The rotisserie platter is the must-have all-you-can-eat option. On the menu: three French meats cooked on the rotisserie so they are crisp on the outside and meltingly tender inside—beef leg with pepper sauce, leg of lamb from the Pays de Caux with reduced jus, and Brittany ham with whole-grain mustard. Everything is served with a generously buttered homemade mashed potato purée, always offered with unlimited refills.
